Oli Jager is an interesting case. Born to an Irish mother and Dutch father in London. Raised in Ireland. Father is a former Dutch national water polo player, goalkeeper to be exact. Arrived in NZ as a loose forward. Jason Ryan played a huge role in converting him to a TH and adding 15kg to his rather sizeable frame. He’s lived in NZ for almost a decade and his missus is Kiwi. Munster already tried to sign him but he turned them down. He has extended his contract to 2023 because he wants to be an All Black. He’s made that perfectly clear in interviews. Good luck to him.

Is there a way, way back for Australian rugby?

How is Papali’i shorter than the Boks? Looking at the players who’ve played 6 for the Boks recently, only PSDT is taller than him. Frans Louw and Siya Kolisi are shorter, he’s the same height as Schalk Burger and Thor. He’s the same height as Kieran Read. Papali’i is an inch shorter than Jerome Kaino and is heavier. They are not light weight. They lack the experience and know how to impose themselves. They need time.

All Blacks go for both Barretts in Bledisloe 1 starting XV

Heinrich Broussow deserves a shout on that list. Jeez! He could play. He terrified me whenever he played against the ABs. He was a barnacle. What a player!

How to beat the All Blacks

They’re all penetrators and elusive runners, we know that. But it is their conversion from 15 to 10 that interests me.

Good article but the above is just not true. Barrett started his rugby at ten and played there from the schoolboys to the age grade teams. Same applies to DMac. Their pace is the reason why the coaches got them to play 15. It was the other way round. First fives who ended up being shunted to FB because of their freakish athleticism. Anscombe Snr was the first person to move BB to fullback for that U20 team that was stacked at first five. DMac started playing FB at an even later stage than BB.
