Very good question actually, I’m sure there are more than a few who would be happy to see him as captain again, perhaps I was speaking a bit too broadly when I said ‘everyone’.

Stokes revives Ashes with extraordinary match-winning ton

I’d say we had every chance to win after bowling them out for 67 on day 2 and having them 9 wickets down with 73 runs to win on day 4, probably one of the biggest chokes I’ve ever seen in a sporting game…

The Liebke Ratings: Third Ashes Test

Everyone would love to do that, but he’s still banned from captaincy until March next year, and I can’t see CA backflipping on that ban.

Australia stole defeat from the jaws of victory.

The Liebke Ratings: Third Ashes Test

That non-LBW call was atrocious. Joel Wilson has got it wrong enough times recently (even dating back to before the World Cup) to warrant his sacking. Yes, Australia burned the review (horrendous decision to do so, might I add), but a call so plumb shouldn’t need to be reviewed to be confirmed.

How a botched run out, another umpire howler and a burned review cost Australia the Test

The only issue is now that we’re 6 down. Labuschagne has proven himself and we all know Cummins and Pattinson can bat, it’s just a matter of how long they do it for. I’d say we’re in a good spot if they can hang around with Labuschagne at least until he reaches 100.
Agree regarding the lead though, that’ll just about secure it.

Australia's new 'Big Three' demolish England

I was pretty skeptical about Labuschagne being included in the squad at first, but I have to say that he’s won me over now! 3 fifties in 3 innings is no mean feat, especially considering the way the rest of the team have been batting.

Pun intended surely.

The Roar's AFL expert tips and predictions: Round 23

Possibly like the Dale Thomas news with Carlton – the club wants to finalise its statements before officially announcing the news. By the time they do, it’ll be the worst kept secret anyway!

Fremantle sacks Ross Lyon and CEO

Huge news! Surprised to hear this one actually, I wonder if he’ll get a gig anywhere else next year. Surely the Saints are a possibility…

The failures of Warner and Bancroft in the first couple of games leaves the thought that runs might just be around the corner. You can’t count on it though. Khawaja needs to work on converting his starts into 50+ scores and hopefully 100s, and I agree with what you’ve said about Wade, but he showed he’s capable in the first test. Hopefully there’s not too much reliance on him.

Warner and Khawaja face make or break Ashes Test

It’s a good headache to have for sure! I’d say play both, but then there’s not enough variety in the attack. I think Siddle will be the one to be dropped (if they do at all), and they’ll play one of Starc or Pattinson alongside Cummins and Hazlewood.

Warner and Khawaja face make or break Ashes Test

Labuschagne bats at 3 for QLD in the Shield. You’re not logically going to fit him into the order with Smith playing unless it’s at 3 with Khawaja opening. They could put him at 6 and move Wade to 3 or at 5 moving Wade to 3 and Head to 6, but I can’t see that happening.
Bancroft’s fielding has been invaluable to the team so far this series and he’s been better with the bat than Warner (not that it’s a huge achievement). Besides, if the selectors have had the nerve to leave Starc out in the first 2 games, it wouldn’t be surprising to see them drop Warner.
Or, you could drop both openers, bring Harris in and put Khawaja up the order (it’s not like he’s been waiting for long to come in anyway…)

Warner and Khawaja face make or break Ashes Test

Agree completely. It’d be fantastic to see Warner step up and play a big role in the next game, he did it in the World Cup, why can’t he do it in the Ashes?

Warner and Khawaja face make or break Ashes Test

Surely Labuschagne has to be selected for the third test now, regardless of whether or not Smith is fit.
I’d drop one or both of Warner and Bancroft, elevate Khawaja to opener (with Harris the other opener if both Warner and Bancroft are dropped), and put Labuschagne at 3.
Surely Starc plays the next test too.

Warner and Khawaja face make or break Ashes Test

Labuschagne took his role as the best test batsman in the world so seriously that the only way England could get him out was from a non-catch!

The Liebke Ratings: Second Ashes Test

Jack’s a big sook. You might not like the decision, but just cop it and move on.
Besides, that’s what the rule was designed for, good decision.
Rules like that are always going to be controversial no matter what.

The only reason he cracked it was because Richmond were paid a mark like that after the final siren against Carlton last week. Add in the fact that the on-field umpire originally paid the mark, and you probably wouldn’t be too happy if it was paid against you either.
If the umpires are going to make poor decisions they should at least be consistent about it.

Jack Silvagni cracks it at umps after he was denied mark on the siren

The lure of a name and a messiah has always been a priority to the powers of this club. Unfortunately, this clouded view stunted the Blues from growing and evolving as the competition has in the last 20 years.
Completely agree. Especially with the appointment of Malthouse, that mentality only hampered the team’s chances of rising up the ladder in those years and ultimately resulted in the list overhaul from 2015.
Even though Bolton wasn’t able to get the results as coach and his sacking was definitely justified, it’s sad to see that he won’t reap the rewards of the young list he fostered over the next few years.

Carlton have grown up by appointing Teague

Needs to build a solid innings (i.e. 50+) in Australia’s first dig to truly ‘redeem himself’, at the moment it seems that he’s only in the team for his fielding.

Cam Bancroft redeems himself for Sandpapergate with an all-time short leg catch

You’ve gotta feel bad for Siddle. His figures in the series so far don’t look too handsome, but he’s definitely bowled better than they suggest and had at least 3-4 missed chances so far in the series. Definitely doesn’t do much for his credentials for the rest of the series.

Tim Paine drop robs Peter Siddle of ANOTHER wicket

Disappointing news to hear but hoping it doesn’t affect the team too much. Thomas’ experience would’ve been pretty helpful around the club next year but with the returns of Marchbank, Docherty etc. it wouldn’t have surprised me to see him squeezed out of the side.
It would’ve been a devastating blow a couple of years ago but Carlton have well and truly got the talent now to cover Thomas’ void.

Carlton veteran Dale Thomas announces AFL retirement

That makes sense. I hope that’s the case rather than Carlton getting rid of him altogether. I think his experience will be integral next year, even just to the playing group as a whole if he isn’t playing consistent games in the 1s.

The training wheels are off as David Teague lands Carlton job for good

Hoping the Thomas news isn’t true, has been consistent this year and deserves another contract.
If not, could definitely find a home at the Suns for a couple of seasons

Don’t like either of them but Sicily definitely flopped. Definitely a free kick to Sicily but it was an obvious flop.
That non-high call was an absolute shocker.
