I think they got fined for being over the cap; but it was just a fine. And yeah, I have changed teams Squidward (even though Im past puberty). It wasnt like I consciously decided to not support the Sharkies. It was more like one day I loved the Sharkies, and the next day I just didnt love them like I used to. And then as time progressed I got less excited about the Sharks to the point that I didnt care about the club. I didnt hate them, but I didnt love them either. And another club helped fill that void. Good luck to the Sharkies, but I’ve moved on.

Yes, Squidward. Im an ex Sharks supporter. Being a Sharks supporter takes a toll on you. I could’ve lived with the possibility that the sharks wouldnt win a GF in my lifetime. I was fine with that. Thats a reality most Sharks fans accept when they sell their souls to the shire. But the ASADA scandal, the grub recruitment policy, salary cap scandals, were the final straw for me. I lost respect for the club. I just couldn’t call myself a Sharks supporter from then on so I just stopped. I dont hate the club though, Im just indifferent to it.

Gambling is addictive, and should’nt be promoted. Some people can stop when they lose a couple quids, others go on and lose everything. It depends on the person, but why take the risk of exposing kids to it. Why is the NRL making gambling cool? Obviously, the game needs sponsors, but gambling should’nt be one.

I’m an ex-Sharks supporter. So I know when it comes to the sharkies. They wont win the GF. They’ve had great seasons and had legendary players in Ettinghausen, Peachey, Rogers, Kimmorley over the years and couldn’t find a way to win. This year will be a stellar season, possible a minor prem, but nothing more. They just cant do it.

Matt Moylan is an Origin player. He just looks like he belongs in Origin. There are some players who start their Origin career and it takes you a while to warm up to them as rep players. But Moylan is different. I had no doubts about him the moment he stepped on the field. This is coming from a QLD fan.

Sorry to disappoint you Andy, but I’m a Collingwood fan. And I have no problem with calling Eddie Maguire, the young girl Goodes called out from the crowd, or anyone else who boos Goodes for taking a stand, racists. Doesnt matter how hard they try to justify it with silly excuses. It doesn’t even matter if they support the greatest footy club in the world (Collingwood of course).
And yes, I hate Swans with a passion like most people. I dont want them to be in another finals series ever. But I respect legends of the game and that is what Goodesy (and Buddy) is to me. And this is coming from a Pies fan who thinks Pendlebury and Swan are the greatest midfield combo in the history of the game-period!

This year we were exposed to SOME AFL fans for what they truely are- bigoted racists. The worst part was when they tried to defend their actions by saying Goodes was a d**khead, crap player, diver,etc. PLEAZE!
Two brownlows and an Australian of the year award is all you need to know about the quality of the bloke as a player and person. Im not saying he is above reproach; but compared to those never-beens who boo him, he is a saint.
You racist booers are just jealous you never made it in your lives and amounted to nothing, and so you feel the need to bring a champ like Goodes down with you. Its never gonna happen. Hide under your rock and keep hating and watching from the shadows as the legend of Goodesy grows. RANT OVER!

Hoppa will come good. He has just started playing after a two year lay off. Its only been one and a half years since he has been back. Next year Hoppa will be a force, but Parra fans have to let him build on.

NSW didn’t have any halves playing. They had the superior forward pack; but no creativity to go with that.
The Pearce and Hodgkinson experiment clearly did not work. They need a new halves pairing next year. I believe a Reynolds and Reynolds combo is the way forward.

I know he is young and has had to grow up under media scrutiny, but that doesn’t justify his rude behaviour.
Kyrgios and his supporters need to realize that there is more to life than just simply winning at all costs. A true champion wins the respect of fans, along with the trophies and accolades.
That is why Nadal and Federer are two of the alltime greats of tennis. They have a endeared themselves to fans by being nice guys and winning everything in front of them.

Was Mitchell Pearce playing in the second half? I barely heard Rabs mention his name. Hodgo also went into invisibility mode. He was out of sight most of the match.
The halfs will always be a problem for NSW because of a lack of creativity in the incumbents. The obvious solution is Adam and Josh Reynolds. The perfect foils; one for his kicking game and the other for his running and creativity.

I may have been disrespectful calling all Origin players “hacks”. For that thoughtless comment I apologize sincerely. I should’ve said all NSW Origin players from the past ten years are all hacks. Queensland players are always class for mine.
But my point remains. If NZ have the best players currently, then the Origin series isn’t entirely the best vs the best as Gus Gould and CH9 would have you believe. Apart from legends like Inglis, Slater, Thurston, and Smith, you can’t call the other players from both states the best at their positions in the world. And that’s why Origin today loses the gloss it had from past eras when all the best players were from either of the two states.
Today, in terms of talent NZ have more quality in the ranks considering they have a smaller pool of players. And many of their players are the best or are close to being the best in the world like Bromwich, Johnson, RTS, Luke,etc. This is a huge achievement for a country dominated by Rugby.

Great win to the Kiwis. Maybe the start of a golden generation of New Zealand in the making. They have the most talented young players in the game, better than any coming through the Aussie system.
I think this win will detract from Origin. Who wants to watch a bunch of hacks play against themselves when all of the best players are kiwis.
A NZ domination of league could be just what they code needs to grow outside of the shadow of Origin.
Finally, to the pundits who said that a full strength OZ team would be unbeatable, I just want to say, Ha ha.

Great article Daniel. SA have argueably the best bowler and batsmen of the last decade in Steyn and De Villiers and Amla, but its up to the rest of the supporting cast to chip and bring home the cup.

I watched the Aussies play Sri Lanka where Maxwell scored a scorcher of a century. But then I saw Sanga score ton in a stylish fashion, and it was just beautiful to watch.

Tim Gore, I disagree with your assessment of Cam Smith’s performance. I think he tried really hard in the game. But you cant control the game behind a beaten pack. Dont hold him accountable for that. And to add, I dont think the Dynasty for NSW has begun just yet. NSW had defensive lapses but they were able to stop those tries from being scored. But they arent exactly the wall defensively, this gives QLD a chance. And if Walters gets his selections right, QLD will win Game 2. But credit to the blues, they were phenomenal in Game 1.
