It took 2 generations for the swans to get established. Maybe it will take one generation for the giants and suns.
New teams in established markets that are under represented would be the way to go.

It's time for a second Brisbane AFL team

I would argue that the AFL need to better support the suns not with draft pics but ALISTAIR CLARKSON. To be able to tell young Gold Coast recruits that they’ll be coached by the best coach of all time could turn the club around. Worked for the Swan in the 90s with Barassi and Melbourne with Paul Roos. QLD has higher participation with the juniors than WA

The AFL should become a fully national competition

We just want to watch our clubs. I watched the State of Origin game and it was high skilled but lacked passion. I hope Origin doesn’t come back and if it does, hopefully during preseason to not interfere with what really matters – the Premiership Cup!

AFL fans have just one reason to be jealous of our NRL cousins

i’m excited for the big big sound! The Giants have been exhilarating this finals series and I’ll slip on my bright orange his Vis factory jumper on today and get behind them! we’ve all been joking at work that we’re all giants

GWS will cancel Tiger Time and win their first flag - here's why

lol

i wouldnt be so confident after losing to Carlton on the home turf!

Not much of a chance this week again WCE! Freo, Port and Dons are all unreliable but I’d be shocked if the bombers can only win 2 games with 4 games to clubs below them. lets reconvene this discussion after this weekend !

The AFL finals race has been blown wide open: Who sneaks in?

This has always been about putting himself first… not an ideal personality trait to be involved in a team sport

Folau hoping to crowd-fund legal case against Rugby Australia

Its not that expensive overseas! If it is too much, you can use a Telstra SIM with wifi and watch it free on an iPad!

Saints and Power set for Shanghai Showdown

Chin up cobber lol

Saints and Power set for Shanghai Showdown

chin up cover! When the league is in good health, it’s prudent to invest for the future. HQ was very clear from the beginning they expected small crowds and +20 years to get a return on their investment. They literally put the team in the region of Australia with the least support for AFL and the number of clubs at lower levels in that region has increased significantly. AFL is well managed

The NRL makes up for small crowds with big tv audiences… how can Rugby survive without either?!

Crowds: An actual national rugby crisis that demands attention

I guess you could do it your way if the customer paid twice

LISTEN: Can Magic Round ever work outside Brisbane or Sydney?

I guess the risk is you lose all the people who are locked into contracts with other telcoms.

Football must find new revenue streams in more ways than one

Its hard to foresee what will happen next with Foxtel. For me the entertainment channels are pointless. Its just the same as all those commercial channels on free to air. I’m only interested in Fox Footy and prefer using Netflix or Amazon for other entertainment. ABC is so much better than Sky too. Optus surely would be considering starting their own media broadcast team. They were burned by Fox all those years ago. But how much would it cost to broadcast?

Football must find new revenue streams in more ways than one

the article stated “with an average match attendance of over 30,000.”

so 134,677/8=16,834. A fair number but just a bit more than usual i guess

LISTEN: Can Magic Round ever work outside Brisbane or Sydney?

if there were 134,677 people attend… how did that average 30,000? if there were 8 games it’d be much less, like 16,000 right? lol

The Suns have been a surprise this year. Even in losing games they fight it out and give themselves opportunities.

The Suns aren't the best, but great signs are finally showing

The new Melbourne team is the test… but should they have built the stadium first ?instead of playing the team in another city (Geelong) lol ! If all the teams were playing in boutique stadiums, the A-League would look so much better. Although a long way off leagues (of any code) with 10-12,000 crowds. NFL is remarkable at 67,000 per game! Premier League at 38,000 is not bad either. AFL is incredible at 34,000 and NRL has a respectable 16,000. Interesting that even super netball makes lists on Wikipedia. But hey we should be talking about the actually ga,e right ? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_sports_attendance_figures

Is the A-League overrated by people who like it or underrated by people who don’t?

This is not free speech. This is hate speech. Know the difference

By sacking Israel Folau, Rugby Australia showed what true leadership looks like

He doesn’t seem to care about the immense power of his words and the tremendous hurt they can cause, in particular to young men and women struggling with their sexuality.

Clearly, he does care. He is deliberately using social media as a platform to influence the beliefs of people to be aligned with his own. He has reached the top level of the 3 most popular football codes in the country.

It is really concerning. There is so much research regarding this already
one example https://nccc.georgetown.edu/documents/LGBT_Brief.pdf
another https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4337813/

I’m part of the LGBT community and as a child growing up in regional Australia I felt different, isolated, weird, wrong… I had posters of sport stars on my bedroom walls as a kid. I would try to emulate their sporting prowess in team sports and I often heard derogatory terms used for bad play… like “that was so gay” and “what a poofter”. It deeply affects the psyche and stays with you for life. So to hear one of the best rugby players in Australia saying we (LGBT community) are somehow sinful and will go to hell, well that is a deliberate attack.

It is not free speech. It is hate speech. No the difference.
