Former All Blacks superstar Dan Carter is one of three Racing 92 players who have allegedly tested positive for using corticosteroids, according to a newspaper report in France.

French paper L’Equipe named Carter, fellow former All Black Joe Rokocoko and Argentinian outside back Juan Imhoff in their report, claiming the trio failed a urine test after their Top 14 final against Toulon on June 25.

According to the report, “the first analytical results have detected abnormalities in the urine of three players of Racing”.

The article also reported that none of Carter, Rokocoko and Imhoff had a therapeutic use exemption (TUE), which would have provided the trio with a legitimate medical excuse for having the banned substance in their systems.

However Simon Porter, Carter’s and Rokocoko’s player manager, hit back at the report, claiming that TUEs had been organised for both of the former All Blacks.

“We have been aware of the issue for a few weeks,” Porter told the New Zealand Herald.

“Our understanding and assurances we’ve had are all the documents around TUEs were in place.”

Carter produced a man-of-the-match display for Racing during their 29-21 win over Toulon in the final, while Rokocoko also put in an impressive display, scoring a chip-and-chase try in the first half.

Both players had been recovering from injuries in the lead-up to the game. Porter said Carter had been taking medication to overcome a calf injury which he had been battling for the months in the lead-up to the final, while Rokocoko had been dealing with a knee injury.

Carter is the all-time leading scorer in international rugby, having racked up 1598 points for New Zealand during his 112-Test career which came to an end after last year’s successful Rugby World Cup campaign.

Rokocoko also enjoyed a prolific Test career, scoring 46 tries for the All Blacks between 2003 and 2010.
