Jordan Silk has once again put himself in contention to claim the catch of the summer, with a stunning diving effort in the Sydney derby on Thursday night.

The 22-year-old was fielding for the Sydney Sixers in the first innings of their final round clash with cross-town rivals the Sydney Thunder when Silk took the catch to dismiss Chris Green.

The moment arrived in the fifteenth over when a wayward slog from Green sent the ball high into the air, destined to land in between several fielders at midwicket.

Such awkward placement can often result in panic and confusion amongst fieldsmen, but Silk – who is often rated as one of Australia’s best fielders – kept his cool, sprinting in to claim the catch at full stretch.

Despite never having been selected to represent Australia at Test level, Silk has taken to the field as a replacement fielder in Test matches on two occasions.

The first came against Pakistan at the SCG when he was just seventeen years old; the second in 2012 against Sri Lanka in Hobart – a match in which he took a catch off the bowling of Nathan Lyon.

The Sydney Sixers finished the 2014/15 Big Bash League season in fourth place, setting up a showdown with the league leading Adelaide Strikers for a place in the Big Final.
