Ghana was the first African team to qualify for the 2010 World Cup. They finished on top of Group 3 in African qualifying, which also contained Benin, Mali and Sudan.
This is a possible Ghana squad for the World Cup

ST. Ransford Osei, Club- FC Twente, (AWC) 19.
Ghana’s main strength (even without Stephen Appiah, who is yet to have played a game with Bologna this season), as already widely mentioned, is the heart of the Ghana midfield.
Ghana’s biggest weakness would appear to be in the goalkeeping ranks.
Probable first choice goalkeeper for Ghana at the World Cup is Richard Kingson, who at the moment is only the third choice at Wigan.
Ghana’s alternatives include William Amamoo, who plays for Swedish second division club Vasalunds IF, or half a dozen other goalkeepers, who play in various leagues across Africa.

That is quite a solid midfield. It will be interesting to see if Vinne Grella gets a run in the Ghana match, given the pace, power and athleticism of Muntari and Essian. But whoever gets picked needs to have the match of their lives if Australia are to get any joy from the match.

Don’t panic. Ease your key off the caps lock, there’s a good lad.

Tagoe won’t start for Ghana. He’s had major health problems and is unlikely to get any game time for Hoffenheim soon. Plus he hasn’t played for the national team in six months.
Amoah will start. He’s a proven goalscorer. Appiah will start. He’s the captain and a very experienced campaigner.

Thanks for that Tom, didn’t know about Tagoe’s health problems.

If Tagoe doesn’t make it to the World Cup a possible replacement could be Dominic Adiyiah who plays for Norwegian club Fredrikstad.

Yes, definitely.
Would be great to see a youngster like Adiyiah make the squad. Would certainly provide something exciting off the bench.
He could be a real handful for old hands like Moore and Neill, and just as much for Mertesaker and Metzelder.

It hardly dominates ours david. Muntari barely plays for inter, Opare playes for Real Madrid Castilla which is their reserves, Kingson is 3rd choice keeper at Wigan. If you look they also have players who play in Scotland, Switzerland, Holland and Sweden. Theyre good but theyre not that much better than us, and last time we played them we beat them

i’d believe your opinion more if it was all in CAPS.

I hope right we must beat ghana! and draw with germany and serbia to make it past the next round i think we can do it but im just being honest we have some good players but we have no one playing for a super club no Hero at least in 06 Kewell was a liverpool and viduka was wanted by the biggest clubs across the country.
Ghana has got essien (chelsea)
Serbia has Vidic (ManU) and Ivaovic (chelsea)
Germany well there whole teams good
Im just saying players not getting game time in 2div england and our stirker from a league i dont rate the J-league we got our work cut out for us

Take Essien out, current injury concerns and a less than perfect disciplinary record make this a distinct possibility, and does their team look significantly better than Australia? I think not, plenty of players in lesser clubs and leagues, just like us. In addition last world cup they played Italy and lost 2-0, we lost 1-0 to Italy. They lost 3-0 to Brazil and we lost 2-0.
In the first round of African qualification, Ghana topped their group on goal difference only, having gained 12 points, the same as Gabon (FIFA ranking 48) and Libya (FIFA ranking 118). Both Gabon and Libya had a win over Ghana in this group.
I think this is the absolute must win game for us. We need to go into the Serbia game needing a draw or a loss to see us through and hope that the Germans do the business elsewhere. Serbia are much the stronger side, but if they need to win against us to gt through, I wonder how they will handle the pressure. Despite their impressive qualification and topping the group in front of France, they did not actually manage to beat the French, recording a home draw and a loss in France.
