The British and Irish Lions team to take on the Wallabies in the first Test match of their tour has been announced, with a few surprises from coach Warren Gatland.

Sam Warburton has made the first XV and will captain the side, one of eight Welsh players in the starting side.

The starting 15 includes just three Englishman in flanker Tom Croft and front-rowers Tom Youngs and Alex Corbisiero.

Gatland has overlooked Welsh duo Richard Hibbard and Dan Lydiate for starting spots, but they have been included in a very strong bench.

Irish backrower Sean O’Brien has missed the side completely.
