James Hird is upbeat ahead of Wednesday’s meeting with Essendon, while his wife Tania is fuming at talk she would be hauled before the board.

The Bombers have called a special board meeting to discuss Hird’s future at the AFL club after a TV interview that Tania gave last week.

There is ongoing speculation that Essendon will cut ties with the suspended coach, who at this stage will return later this year and be in charge for another two years.

Hird, who is studying in Singapore, told Channel Nine he is “very confident” he will return as coach.

He will appear at the meeting via an electronic link.

“We’ll have that board meeting and we’ll go from there,” Hird said.

Tania Hird blasted the AFL over the supplements scandal, but the Bombers are desperate to put the issue behind them and focus attention on this season.

“Of course I support my wife, definitely … I support my wife in everything she does,” Hird said.

Tania Hird also made it clear on Tuesday that she was unhappy about talk that Essendon wanted her to front the meeting as well.

“The only comment I’d probably like to make is I’m not a piece of cattle and I’m not an employee,” she said.

“It’s really offensive to suggest that I’d be hauled anywhere.”
