While the celebrations in Germany slowly peter out following their dominant performance at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, the focus of international football fans is already turning to the 2018 World Cup in Russia, which has just released the logo that will brand the next instalment of the world’s most popular sporting event.
The logo, a tribute to Sputnik, was fittingly revealed by cosmonauts from the International Space during a popular television talk show.

Following the grand reveal, the logo was beamed onto one of Russia’s most iconic buildings, the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow.

Speaking on the design, Russia’s sports minister Vitaly Mutko, stated: “To creatively capture the essence of this remarkable historic moment, inspiration was drawn from both Russia’s rich artistic tradition and its history of bold achievement and innovation. I hope that fans around the world will appreciate and love the Russia 2018 emblem.”

The 2018 World Cup is scheduled to commence on June 8, concluding on July 8, 2018.
