2009 French Open winner Roger Federer continues his Roland Garros campaign with a second-round match against Marcel Granollers. Join The Roar for live scores of the match from around 9pm (AEST).

After recording a comfortable victory against Alejandro Falla in the first round, the Fed Express now has an opportunity to make the third round in Paris for the 12th straight year.

His opponent, Granollers, made the fourth round in 2012 and last year. At 29, the Spaniard is now a veteran of the sport, having won four ATP titles and reached a career high ranking of 19 in 2012.

He is currently 57 in the world, and made the semi-finals of the ATP event in Zagreb in February. His favourite surface is clay, so this event is significant as he tries to maintain his ranking.

However he is facing one of the toughest tests in the ATP, with Federer almost unbeatable at this stage of a Grand Slam. In 57 second-round matches at Grand Slam level, Federer has lost just once, when Sergiy Stakhovsky defeated him in Wimbledon in 2013.

These two have faced each other three times in ATP events, with the Swiss maestro winning all of them. Their last meeting was at the US Open last year, when Federer won in four sets. Granollers’ first-set win that day was the only time he has taken a set off Federer in their three matches.

Prediction
Federer won’t have any problems making the third round.

Federer 3-1.
