Vekic 0 3

Ana Ivanovic has dominantly defeated Donna Vekic in this third round match. She took three break points in the first set and didn’t let Kevic play the game at all. After holding Vekic to love in the first set.

Vekic managed to come out in the second set and match Ivanovic for the first couple of games. Ivanovic then broke Vekic making it 3-2 Ivanovic in the second before she consolidated on her serve. Vekic then held serve before Ivanovic won the last two games hardly raising a sweat.

In the end that was all far too easy for Ivanovic and she never looked challenged.

Ivanovic has by her standards and world ranking had a poor lead up to the French Open for 2015. In her last tournament in Rome she lost a three set match to the 78th ranked Daria Gavriola and before that was knocked out of the Madrid Masters by Carla Suarez Navarro.

Looking back a little bit further down her playing history and losses to 29th ranked Caroline Garcia and 21st ranked Sabine Lisicki are both notable. An in form Ivanovic would have won at least a couple of these games.

Incredibly, her most notable win since the clay court season began was against 19th ranked Elina Svitolina which has to be a worry for Ivanovic coming into the French Open.

Her form has shown in her first two round matches at Rollan Garros where she struggled to gain any momentum. She lost the first set in both clashes against much lower ranked opponents Yaroslava Shvedova and Misaki Doi before managing to hang on and win the final two sets in both games.

Ivanovic, it would be fair to say struggles on clay however. Since she won the French Open in 2008 she hasn’t made it past the fourth round while she has been knocked out in the third round in two her last three participations at the event.

Meanwhile, currently ranked 165th in the world Kevic’s form has been very mixed in the lead up to the 2015 French Open. Mainly playing players outside of the top 100, she has been both winning and losing with her most high key win coming against the 41st ranked Heather Watson in Charleston.

Her French Open history amounts to a pair of first round exits, meaning she has already exceeded her best performance by making the third round this year. In fact this betters all of her grand slam achievements.

Her first round win was a defeat of 31st seed Caroline Garcia in three sets which was much unexpected before she knocked out Bojana Jovanovski in straight sets. She has had a great start to the tournament and will look to continue it against Ivanovic.

The pair have never matched up before, and based on Ivanovic’s recent form on the clay it could become quite an interesting match. The odds are squarely in Ivanovic’s favour though.

PREDICTION: Ivanovic should have no problems in moving onto the fourth round of the 2015 French Open against Kevic, although she will make Ivanovic work hard for it.

Ivanovic in three sets.
