Muguruza in two sets. 7-5, 6-3
The battle at Wimbledon heats up as Garbine Muguruza and Timea Bacsinszky meet for a place in the semi-finals. Join The Roar for live scores from around 10:30pm (AEST) following the completion of Novak Djokovic vs Kevin Anderson.
This is Muguruza’s best Wimbledon run and her second best Grand Slam result. She has only been to the semi-finals once, in 2014 and lacks big game experience, which could plot her downfall.
The key for the Venezuelan is an aggressive game plan.
Like Muguruza, this is Bacsinszky’s best Wimbledon and her second best Grand Slam result. The 15th seed Swiss has improved massively this year and she has some experience in the back-end of Grand Slams, including a semi-final at Roland Garros in 2015.
If the game comes down to experience, Bacsinszky will win, however she must first focus on stopping Muguruza’s aggression.
Muguruza and Bacsinszky have played each other once, at the 2015 Australian Open, with Muguruza winning 6-3, 4-6, 6-0. Muguruza is coming off a win in straight sets over Caroline Wozniacki 6-4, 6-4 and has a win-loss record in her last 10 matches of 7-3. Bacsinszky meanwhile is coming off a win over Monica Niculescu in three sets 1-6, 7-5, 6-2 and has a win-loss record of 9-1 in her last 10 matches.
Prediction
It will be one of the closest matches of the quarter-finals, Muguruza will just edge out Bacsinszky.
