The Premier League season is only seven rounds old but already the title contenders are starting to take shape. Here are the ten most in-form players in the world’s biggest football league.

10. Anthony Martial (3 goals, 0 assists) – Manchester United
The former Monaco striker was labelled as ‘a waste of money’ and a ‘flop’, but that was before they had seen the 19-year-old play. The Frenchman was bought for a hefty 36 million euros and now we know why. He scores goals, wins headers, is quick and makes the most of his chances in front of goal.

Brought in by Louis Louis van Gaal due to Rooney’s poor start to the season, Martial has made the perfect impact for the Red Devils and has provided the x-factor they were looking for.

9. Yaya Toure – (1 goal, 4 assists) – Manchester City
Yaya Toure is the most feared football player in England. The Ivorian is back to his 2013-14 form where he was scoring goals, making dangerous passes and playing more of an attacking midfielder role. The best thing about Toure is that he can play basically anywhere.

He has enough pace, composure, rocketing shooting, is physical and strong as any and can be a rock as a defensive midfielder. If he can keep up this early season form he looks set to be scoring more than 15 goals.

8. Andre Ayew (3 goals, 1 assists) – Swansea
The first Swansea man on the list, Ayew has made a lightning start to the new season. Who would have thought before the season that Ayew could be one of the most prolific players in the Premier League? Pacey and small, he makes a perfect pairing to his up-front partner Gomis.

Keeping up this partnership and his form will provide Swansea with a push for a Europa League position at the end of the season.

7. Ross Barkley (2 goals, 3 assists) – Everton FC
Barkley is one of the greatest young talents in English football. Standing at 188cm the big Englishman has a strong presence in midfield. Once he gets going there is no stopping him. He is fit, durable and powerful. Already with 3 assists and 2 goals he doesn’t just hold down midfield, he gets forward and can get back as well.

6. Odion Ighalo (4 goals, 0 assists) – Watford
Ighalo? Who’s that? That’s what we won’t be saying at the end of this season. The Watford man has already scored plenty. With help from the experienced Troy Deeney claiming most of his assists, Ighalo has slotted in perfectly with Watford’s system.

The big man has an eye for goal and won’t miss an opportunity in the penalty area. Keeping up his form may be challenging, but we all must see him as a Charlie Austin from last season.

5. Bafetimbi Gomis (4 goals, 0 assists) – Swansea City
The Frenchman just can’t stop scoring. The second Swansea man on the list has combined with Andre Ayew to form a new Premier League killer partnership. The pair have scored 7, his big frame along with his powerful strength and finishing power have complimented that of Ayew who is small and quick.

Now 30, and after never playing to his full potential at Premier League level, he finally looks set to have reached it. The only question is if he can maintain this level of form.

4. Dimitri Payet (3 goals, 3 assists) – West Ham United
Some would say he is the best Premier League signing from the summer period. Clearly the most influential new recruit, he has already scored some eye-catching goals.

He looks composed and makes smart decisions when on the ball. The Irons bought Payet after his glittering performances in Ligue 1, scoring goals and topping the assists list for the league. He is such a smart player who looks well on his way to add to his goal and assist tallies.

3. Jamie Vardy (6 goals, 1 assist) – Leicester City
Currently sitting top of the goals list, this year’s surprise packet Leicester have been led by Vardy. Vardy plays lone striker and this season has played it better than anyone else, proving is versatility in the role by scoring goals with his head (1), left foot (2) and right foot (3).

He is lightning quick, doesn’t miss chances, and can win headers to bring it to the feet of his fellow attackers. Vardy is playing some fantastic football and looks well set to begin a new chapter in his footballing career as one of the Premier League’s most prominent strikers.

2. Callum Wilson (5 goals, 0 assists) – AFC Bournemouth
Taking time to settle into the Premier League life? That’s just not Callum Wilson’s style. The main man for Bournemouth has taken off in English Premier League, already scoring 5 goals, including a ridiculous bicycle kick against Leicester City.

He is one of the quickest players in the League and when a chance is there he will pounce, boasting an impressive stat sheet with 5 goals from only 8 shots. Netting 20 goals last year in the Championship, he is set to equal that tally. The Cherries man is quick, agile and electric.

1. Riyad Mahrez (5 goals, 3 assists) – Leicester City
Easily the most prolific and in-form player in the Premier League. Sitting second top of the goal scoring list, the skinny French/Algerian dances around Premier League defences effortlessly and his left foot is deadly inside the penalty box.

His performances have been likened to that of Arjen Robben. He was awarded the player of the month award after scoring 4 goals in his first four games of the season.

The unlucky ones
Romelu Lukaku (4 goals), Graziano Pelle (4 goals), Wesley Hoolahan (5 assists), David Silva (4 assists), Juan Mata (3 goals, 3 assists).
