SBS has bought the exclusive free-to-air rights for the UEFA European Championship 2016, better know as Euro 2016.

At this stage, SBS plan to show eight live matches from the knockout stages including the final on SBS and SBS HD. There will also be a daily highlights show on SBS 2. There is still no word out of Foxtel as to whether they will broadcast any of the matches.

The 2016 edition of the European Football championships is set to be a hard-fought tournament, with 24 teams competing across France for the Henri Delauney Trophy.

Italy coach Antonio Conte will be hoping to finish his stint with the national team on a high. He announced his departure having been in at the helm for only 18 months.

Two-time reigning champions Spain will face the tough challenge of World Champion Germany, England and the hosts.

SBS Director of Sport, Ken Shipp said that winning the rights was a win for the game.

“SBS is pleased to have obtained the exclusive free-to-air rights for the UEFA Euro 2016.
