Parramatta Eels halfback and skipper Kieran Foran has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2016 season.

Foran sustained an injury to his shoulder during Monday night’s Round 12 clash with the Newcastle Knights, which they won 20-18.

The star playmaker damaged the bicep tendon in his shoulder and is set to undergo surgery in the coming week.

The Eels will also be without centre Brad Takairangi after he injured a hamstring, in a match that will mostly be remembered for the toll it’s taken on the Eels’ playing personnel. The club will be without his services for at least four weeks.

Foran has already been in the spotlight this season, with him entering rehab as a result of a relationship breakdown with a long-term partner. He also suffered an overdose from a prescription drug. While out of rehab, he was caught up in a betting scandal and is taking legal action against the TAB and News Corp after betting transactions from an account with the company that has been linked to him were leaked.

Foran returned in a forgettable clash against Melbourne Storm last Monday.

It’s not the first time Foran has been ruled out with injury in 2016, missing early rounds while he recovered from a hamstring injury.

The news comes at a bad time for the blue and gold, with the club threatened with the loss of competition points after salary cap violations.

Nathan Peats and Ryan Morgan were let go in a bid to keep their finals chances alive, with the possibility of the team excluded from accruing points until their cap situation was settled.

There is also the looming July court date for five-eighth Corey Norman, who was charged with drug possession.

Eels coach Brad Arthur has a week to decide on a replacement as his side have the bye this week. They face the Titans on Saturday the 11th of June.
