Wallabies No.8 David Pocock will miss the remaining two matches of Australia’s three-Test series with England with scans confirming that he has a fractured eye socket.

Pocock came off the field in the 69th minute of last night’s Test under the blood rule, before under going scans that confirmed the bad news.

Ben McCalman of the Western Force and Wycliff Palu of the Waratahs look to be the likely candiates to replace Pocock at No.8, however, nothing has been confirmed as yet.

It’s also possible that Wallabies coach Michael Cheika will look to continue the set-up of using two openside flankers, and bring up Liam McGill or Sean McMahon as Pocock’s replacement.

“There’s options there that have experience in the frontline,” Cheika said.

“We’re fortunate there, but at the same time disappointed to lose a player of David’s quality, the skills he brings to the game and that dynamic we have in the back-row with himself Michael and Scott.

“We’ll probably create a different type of complimentary nature now, or we could go like-for-like – once we have a look at the game again today as coaches, we’ll see what we want to go with and how we might want to play the game next Saturday.”

The Wallabies were defeated by England by a margin of 11 points on Saturday night, at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.

There are two Tests remaining in the series, to be played over the next two weeks. The second will be played at AAMI Park in Melbourne, and the third at Allianz Stadium in Sydney.
