Novak Djokovic begins his campaign for a third consecutive Wimbledon title when he takes on James Ward in the opening round. Join The Roar for live score of the match from 10pm (AEST).

With the history books beckoning, all eyes will be Djokovic as he vies to become only the second man to win six consecutive grand slams.

Ranked number 177 in the world, Ward would shock the world if he were to topple the indestructible Serb.

Contesting his first grand slam for the year after missing both the Australian and French Open, Ward has nothing to lose.

Djokovic, on the other hand, has almost everything to lose, expected to breeze through the opening round matches before the competition begins to heat up.

It’s a dangerous position to be in for the world number one – he can’t allow himself to become complacent or he may quickly find himself behind needing to muster some of his better tennis to escape the first round.

Prediction
England could really use some joy after the week they’ve had, however they won’t get any from this match.

Djokovic should make light work of Ward without getting out of second gear.
