Murray has had a wonderful couple of months, having won at both Wimbledon and the Rio Olympics in a brilliant run for the Briton.

He will be looking to go three in a row at major tournaments, aiming for his second US Open campaign title, having won here in 2012.

The 29-year-old came close to winning at Cincinnati, going down in the final to Marin Cilic 6-4, 7-5, following wins over the likes of Milos Raonic, Bernard Tomic, Kevin Anderson and Juan Monaco.

Apart from his loss to Cilic, Murray has not dropped a set since his gold medal match with Juan Martin Del Potro at Rio, whom he defeated 7-5, 4-6, 6-2, 7-5.

Murray got a good start to the US Open with a win over Lukas Rosol in the first round, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2.

Granollers has struggled in the lead-up to the US Open, with an unexpected first-round exit at Kitzbuhel, as well as a quarter-final loss at Los Cabos, before only reaching the second round at Cincinnati Masters, losing to Tomas Berdych in straight sets following a win over Jiri Vesely.

The Spaniard won his first-round match against Juan Monaco in straight sets, 7-6, 7-6, 6-4.

Nine meetings have come between the two, with Murray winning seven. Murray has won all three on hard courts, including their last meeting, which came at Indian Wells earlier this year 6-4, 7-6.

The winner will square off against either Gilles Simon or Paolo Lorenzi in the third round.

Prediction
Murray will be far too strong and continue his push for a second crown at Flushing Meadows.

Murray in straight sets.
