Will Angelique Kerber be the next top seed to bundle out of the Australian Open or will the German defeat Alexandra Dulgheru and progress to the third round? Join The Roar for live scores from around 7pm (AEDT).

Seventh seed Angelique Kerber is prepared to go deep into the Australian Open following the shock exits of several top seeds including Simona Halep and Venus Williams.

Kerber has had a great start to 2016 having lost just one match so far this year coming during the Brisbane International final when she fell in straight sets 3-6, 1-6 at the hands of Victoria Azarenka who has since been instilled as a heavy favourite to take out the first grand slam of the year.

Kerber then travelled to Sydney where she defeated world No.21 Elina Svitolina during the first round before being forced to withdraw from the tournament.

The German has now won seven of her last ten matches and despite struggling in her first round meeting with Misaki Doi whom she defeated in three sets 6-7, 7-6, 6-3, she looks strong and will certainly give her opponent Alexandra Dulgheru plenty of problems.

Dulgheru is coming off a straight sets win over Australian world No.355 Storm Sanders in the first round 6-4, 6-2 and will be hoping she can cause a massive upset by sending Kerber packing.

The Romanian has had a good start to 2016, after defeating each of Alison Van Uytvanck and Marina Erakovic at Auckland before falling at the hands of world No.18 Caroline Wozniacki in the quarter-finals of the tournament.

Dulgheru will be hoping to defend her shots well and pressure Kerber into a three-set match however the odds will be stacked against her.

Kerber and Dulgheru have played each other on two occasions with both meetings going the way of Kerber, all of which came on hard court. Their most recent encounter was at the 2015 US Open during the first round with Kerber prevailing in straight sets 6-3, 6-1.

The winner will progress to the third round with a match against either Madison Brengle or Johanna Larsson.

Prediction
Dulgheru will struggle to keep up with Angelique Kerber which will see the German seventh seed go through to the third round.

Kerber in straight sets.
