UFC 147: Five reasons to watch
Thanks for live blogging Andrew Potter!! 🙂
UFC on FX 3: Johnson vs McCall live updates, blog
Close fight and Johnson was the right winner this time around. That said, interesting that a judge scored it 30-27 in his favour.

It’s a hard one, the first fight was so close. McCall might get up in this one.

Hugely impressive. He seriously made that rear naked choke look quite easy.

Eddie really needed that win, given he’s had a bad run of late. Hope he gains his momentum back and we see him fighting at the top for a while!

Would like to see Wineland get this one. But tough fight to pick!

I think this spate of injuries is a run of bad luck – someone must have opened an umbrella inside, or cracked a mirror. It really is a double edged sword, the increase in events has created pressure to perform and get paid which can lead to injuries as fighters don’t get to recover as much as what they would like.
Just an idea up for debate – glad to see what you all think!
Should the UFC have an off-season?
This is going to be one interesting fight. Hoping Magalhaes gets the win to carry on raising the profile of the sport here, would be good timing before the TUF Smashes onslaught begins!
Bernardo Trekko's UFC redemption
What was interesting about this year was with the live fights, we missed a large section of the show involving the dynamic of the house. We saw glimpses here and there, such as Sicilia and Rio’s cross team friendship, as well as a small showdown involving Tickle and Cruickshank at the end, but that was about it. That said, I felt like I knew more about the fighters this season than I did in season 13 – Lesnar vs. JDS.
I don’t think we need to go to the horrible levels of pranks that were shown in season 8, but there needs to be a middle ground. We need to connect with these fighters and find our favourites to cheer for. This is what I think has been missing in the last couple of seasons.
Does winning The Ultimate Fighter mean anything?
There was nothing snails pace about the UFC 146 card, there were only 2 fights on the entire card that went to decision and in the PPV card, the fight time was a little under 22 minutes.
It’s a given that entertaining fights differ, we all like the Heavyweight knockouts but then the five round back-and-forth battle between Dan Henderson and Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua was one of the best, as was the TUF 1 finale fight between Stephan Bonnar and Forrest Griffin (although only 3 rounds).
UFC: Some fans are never satisfied
I think JDS vs. Cain Velasquez is the only fight you can have at this point in time.
That said, there will be a lot of movement in the division with the rumour of Brock coming back (not saying he’ll get another chance at the title soon though); plus you have Dana saying that if Daniel Cormier wishes to come in and fight for the UFC title then he’s cool with that, although prefers him as LHW; and also mentioning that Overeem will return with the same positioning as he did when suspended.
The best possible outcome? We may see another stacked HW card in the future!
What's next for the UFC 146 winners?
I somewhat feel that Mir is constantly the bridesmaid in the division. That said I think this time next year the division will look different again and Mir may get another chance at the title.
Frank Mir out to cement his place amongst the greats at UFC 146
Interesting in the whole Mayhem situation. I think had his knee not been injured we would have seen a different fight, he would have chased down those knockdowns at least. What is disappointing is the apparent ‘incident’ that has happened backstage which ended up in the fighter being cut (which he may have anyway after the two losses).
The Roar: UFC 146 previews and predictions
Halfway through and it’s been a mixed bag. Not too worried about the main card picks guys 🙂
The Roar: UFC 146 previews and predictions
The UFC have been on a good roll providing excellent match ups for exciting fights. What’s also exciting is that we could see all fights finishing within the first round thanks to the Heavyweights.
The great UFC 146 shake up: who has missed out?
The NSW Combat Sports Authority have looked after the past UFC events (correct me if I’m wrong). As per US events, there have been doctors on stand by and our doctors have erred on the side of caution, as in the case of Krzysztof Soszynski vs Stephan Bonnar at UFC 110 where the doctor stopped the fight due to a cut, which the fighters themselves and the fans thought was ok.
UFC announces The Ultimate Fighter: The Smashes (Oz vs UK)
Update: The age restriction for fighters wishing to apply has been extended from 18 to 35.
UFC announces TUF: Australia vs UK - The Smashes
It’s a fine line between what’s right for the fighter and what’s right for the fans.
Does Edgar deserve a rematch? Sure, if people think it was that close. And given he had to fight 2 rematches with the title it can be only fair.
Would I rather that the Lightweight title get out of the habit of rematching? Yes! We have enough competitors in the division to create exciting events – Anthony Pettis, Nate Diaz, Jim Miller to name a few, you could even get Gilbert Melendez (Strikeforce lightweight champ) if required.
The danger is creating a sense of discontent for fans in the Lightweight division.
UFC: To rematch or not to rematch?
Ahhh the curse of the TUF coach continues. It is a real shame that Cruz has become injured given that his profile has been elevated with the show. A setback like this and time away from the cage my see the champ fade into obscurity again. I’m glad to hear that he is still coaching, I really think he would have fought tooth and nail to remain in the show, his dedication to the team has been displayed throughout the season.
Injury forces Cruz out of UFC 148 and fight with Faber
I guess it’s becoming a little difficult to differentiate given that UFC on Fox, UFC on Fuel and UFC on fx events. Names in the title allows the casual fan to identify and tune in. I agree that PPV card should remain numbered without any other name, even UFC 100 event it was nameless.
Sure, the fights are great, but where are the ridiculous names?
It is interesting that Sapp is fighting Mariusz Pudzianowski in Poland this weekend on the way to Australia. I think it does raise question to his motivation and attitude going into the Palelei fight but he will still be around for as long as he gets paid.
Battle of heavyweights set for CFC 21
I’m really disappointed for Koscheck after this weekend, perhaps there has been some confidence missing since his title shot against Georges St. Pierre late 2010. Whatever it is, I hope he finds it soon and we see the dominant Koscheck of old.
In the welterweight division I wouldn’t mind seeing Hendricks vs. Ellenberger for the #1 title contenders spot.
What comes next for Sunday's UFC winners?
If I was Diaz, I would wait. Why risk a loss and have to start again?
The only thing that may frustrate Diaz is the wait since he has been fighting back to back recently, however he did mention that he wanted a bit of a break.
Diaz chokes out Miller for a chance at title
The first card was fantastic so looking forward to this one!
