Preview of the Friday night matches in round two of the National Rugby League (all times AEDT).

SOUTH SYDNEY RABBITOHS v BULLDOGS at ANZ Stadium, 7.30pm

Head to head: Bulldogs 69, Souths 61, drawn 4.
Last match: Bulldogs 34 bt Rabbitohs 10 at Telstra Stadium (Rd 4, 2007)
FootyTAB: Souths +2.5
TAB Sportsbet: Rabbitohs $2.05, Bulldogs $1.75

The carnage from round one is likely to rob fans of several top-shelf players for this match. Rabbitohs pair Craig Wing (shoulder) and Nigel Vagana (back/hamstring) are definitely out while Bulldogs star forward Sonny Bill Williams has been named but is battling a knee injury. Both teams are coming off losses but in contrasting fashion. A disappointed Souths were never in the hunt against the Sydney Roosters while the Bulldogs capitulated to Parramatta after holding a commanding 20-0 halftime lead. Much depends on the health of SBW. If he plays, then put your money on the Bulldogs.

Key: How will the `Dogs bounce back from from their embarrassing surrender to the Eels?
Tip: Bulldogs

SYDNEY ROOSTERS v BRISBANE BRONCOS at Sydney Football Stadium, 7.30pm

Head to head: Brisbane 18, Sydney Roosters 11.
Last Match: Broncos 32 bt Roosters 10 at Aussie Stadium (Rd 4, 2007)
FootyTAB: Broncos +2.5
TAB Sportsbet: Roosters $1.70, Broncos $2.10

Brisbane’s pack has been decimated following injuries to Ben Hannant, Corey Parker, Joel Clinton and Michael Ennis, placing enormous pressure on their raw youngsters to fill the void. It’s a tough ask against rep players Willie Mason, Mark O’Meley, Nate Myles, Anthony Tupou and Craig Fitzgibbon. Greenkeeper Palmer Wapau will make his NRL debut if Hannant fails to recover from a foot problem. A near full-strength Broncos looked in good touch against Penrith but the Roosters were even better against Souths. Brisbane have lost too much power in the engine room to set alight their star-studded backline.

Key: Will the Broncos’ baby forwards be out of their depth? They’ll need to play out of their skins.
Tip: Roosters.
