Adam Scott is confident he can reclaim bragging rights from Geoff Ogilvy as Australia’s top-ranked world golfer over the next month on the US PGA Tour.

Scott finished 25th at this month’s Masters following a disappointing 76 on the final day while Ogilvy fared even worse, tied for 39th after carding a last round 74 in tricky conditions at Augusta.

“It ended on a bit of a sour note but my form is good,” Scott told AAP at the Boost Mobile Surf Sho (Sho) on the Gold Coast today.

“I’m really happy. I’ve done a lot of stuff different this year.

“I just haven’t quite put it together for four days.

“It’s going to happen. I just have to be patient and convert what I’m doing.”

Ogilvy is ranked No.5 in the world – five places better than Scott, who is determined to overhaul his fellow Australian by the end of the Players Championship from May 8-11 at the famous Sawgrass course in Florida.

“The rankings come and go, they’re so volatile,” said Scott, who flies back to the United States tomorrow to prepare for the Byron Nelson Championship in Irving, Texas.

“I’m a couple of good weeks away from being back up there.

“Geoff’s had a good run and things turns around really quickly.

“I’m looking forward to getting over there (to the US) and putting three good weeks together.”

Tigers Woods is a runaway leader in the rankings ahead of fellow American Phil Mickelson.

Woods finished runner-up to South Africa’s Trevor Immelman in the Masters before having knee surgery that could sideline him for up to six weeks.

“It gives up hope,” said Scott about four-time Masters winner Woods’ performance in one of many events he has dominated.

“He hasn’t won his last two (tournaments) so he’s human.

“He’s out for a few weeks so hopefully we can take advantage of that.”

After Texas, Scott will play in the Wachovia Championship in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The 27-year-old Scott watched in amusement at Surfers Paradise Beach today as Australia’s world surfing champion Mick Fanning contested a heat of an aerial show on a surfmat.

“This is my first ever surf contest,” said Scott, a keen surfer who braved the crowds at Snapper Rocks yesterday.

“It wasn’t quite what I was expecting, to come here and see the world champ on a lilo.”
