What Deans will do, eventually

Even though the Dingo has been hired for lots of money and gets lots of respect, he doesn’t have total control over who gets to play, or even who gets to play where.

I think he’s been asked or told to groom Giteau at 5/8 for the next RWC, but this is not the best spot for Giteau in the team.

I think Deans would prefer to have a Januarie-type halfback with the capability to break open a game from the base of the scrum as he did in Wellington.

I think we may eventually see Giteau at half, Barnes at five-eight and Mortlock at inside-centre. Deans might then play Tuqiri at outside-centre to take advantage of his defensive skills.

There are several wingers who could replace him.

The Wallabies aren’t short on wingers but we’re struggling to replace Latham.

I think this is a position Deans would like to freshen up with some new thinking. It’s probably the hardest position to play in a rugby back line, which is why nobody in the Wallabies is having much success at it.

Anybody got any fresh ideas for a fullback? Somebody who’s at present playing club rugby, perhaps?
