Queensland replaced Central Coast in fourth place in the A-League tonight after further damaging Newcastle’s title defence with another away win.

The Roar beat the Jets 2-1 and now have 14 points from six games on the road.

Also tonight, Perth Glory sent Wellington to the bottom of the ladder, winning the battle of the cellar dwellers 2-0 at Members Equity Stadium.

It was Perth’s second straight win at home after beating Sydney FC 2-1 a fortnight ago and they are now a point clear of Wellington.

Queensland’s win put them on 15 points, one point ahead of Central Coast and five points above the Jets.

While it was Newcastle’s first home loss of the season, they have collected only one win and six points from five games on their own turf and are now five points behind Queensland.

Meanwhile, “diving” is again in the A-League spotlight after Friday night’s controversial incident during Melbourne’s win over Adelaide.

Former Socceroo Robbie Slater labelled Brazilian import Cristiano’s example “a disgrace” in his newspaper column today, citing it as yet another argument for a video referee.

Cristiano won a free kick after going down and Adelaide scored to take a 2-1 lead, but eventually lost 3-2 at home to Melbourne Victory.

It enabled Victory to reclaim top spot from United on goal difference .

The Mariners staged another stunning turnaround last night for a 3-3 draw against Sydney.

The Mariners were 3-0 down in the second half before erasing the deficit in just 18 minutes.

Sydney coach John Kosmina said his side had almost given the match away, but he was also adamant that the equaliser from Olyroo Matt Simon should not have been scored.

Kosmina claimed there was a foul on goalkeeper Ivan Necevski immediately before the 80th-minute goal.

“He (Necevski) was already taken out before the ball was in the box, some weeks the referees see them, some weeks they don’t,” Kosmina said.

It was Simon’s second goal for the match and his seventh for the season, taking him to the top of the league goalscoring.

The draw was the second time in a month the Mariners had fought back from a 0-3 deficit – a 3-3 draw with Adelaide City in round seven.

A win would have put injury-hit Sydney on top and Stuart Musialik squandered a great chance to put the game beyond the Mariners’ reach, when he hit the underside of the bar from close range with his team 3-0 up.

The game maintained the trend of dramatic and high-scoring clashes between the two NSW rivals, who have now scored 25 goals in their last four encounters.

Sydney are third on 16 points, while Melbourne and Adelaide are on 17 apiece.

The Victory also had to rally on Friday night, scoring their three goals in the second half – including two in three minutes.
