Mitchell to prey on fragile Roar

Perth Glory coach Dave Mitchell says he will target Queensland’s fragility at home when the two A-League teams clash at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday.

The Roar have posted just a single point from a possible 15 at home this season and Mitchell said the pressure on Frank Farina’s charges to break their Suncorp hoodoo would be used against them.

“I think it’s one where the visiting team will be going there and saying ‘right, let’s hold them out for as long as possible’, and then maybe the crowd gets on their back,” Mitchell said.

“That’s no secret and we’ll be trying to do the same and hopefully we capitalise on that and score an early goal.

“It’s gong to be a big game for both clubs.

“They haven’t won at home and we haven’t won away this season so it will be a nail-biter. We are going to go up there to try to get a result and they’ll be doing likewise.”

Farina admitted his team’s poor record at home had become a concern.

“It’s obviously something that has concerned us as well and we’re desperate for a win … we want to get the monkey off our back,” Farina said.

Glory midfielder Amaral (knee), defender Hayden Foxe (hamstring) and winger Nick Rizzo (groin) have been ruled out of the match but defender David Tarka has recovered from a quad injury and is in line for a recall.

Queensland will be without influential skipper Craig Moore (testicular cancer), while Danny Tiatto is also expected to miss with a foot injury.

Roar defender Josh McCloughan said the team would target Glory ace Nikita Rukavytsya, who has bagged four goals in his past three games.

“(Rukavytsya) has been doing really well and scoring some good goals so he’s definitely a dangerous player,” McCloughan said.

“I’ve noticed every time he picks the ball up just inside his own half and runs with it he’s very dangerous, that’s when I think he has his success, so when he’s asking for that ball we need to be nice and tight with him.”
