The Rooboys were made to look second rate on Friday night. But Jack Ziebell made it all worthwhile. He looked a class act.

Still shy of his eighteenth birthday, he was nervous early, but only got better. Two goals in the last quarter, with Ziebell playing up forward, made our forward structure look dangerous for the first time all evening.

There have been a number of quality ‘debuts’ by youngsters in the NAB cup so far.

Then there’s also been a couple of debut games full stop. Mike Pyke, the Canadian, played his very first game of footy. As did Michael Quinn, the Essendon Irish rookie.

Of the kids with a year or two in the system, for the Swans, Craig Bird looked to step up a level, so too did Simon Hogan and Trent West at Geelong, and Travis Tuck at Hawthorn and Jack Grimes at Melbourne.

There are three weeks to go in the NAB Cup. So which of these names will be this year’s NAB cup wonders?
