Versleijen names 25-man young Socceroos squad

Young Socceroos head coach Jan Versleijen has selected a 25-man squad for a training camp at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra next week as part of his team’s preparation for the FIFA under-20 World Cup.

Queensland Roar midfielder Mitch Nichols is among those included, having collected his first Socceroo cap against Kuwait earlier this month.

He is joined by Newcastle’s 17-year-old defender Ben Kantarovski who was also part of Pim verbeek’s squad, but did not play.

The majority of the squad have been selected from the Hyundai A-League and National Youth League with the exception of Jason Davidson, who plays for Hume City in the Victorian Premier League.

The 24-team tournament, which will be held in Egypt from September 24-October 16 and will include England, Italy, Germany, Brazil and Spain.
