All Blacks and Wallabies should pool resources

It seems that both New Zealand, to a major extent, and Australia, fight above their weight in rugby union. At the moment, there appears to be unprecedented co-operation between both countries’ administrations. So perhaps it’s time to consider the idea of sharing some resources.

Both countries have limited resources, both in terms of finances, player numbers and coaches. I agree that New Zealand has far more of the last two of these, but they are still relatively small in world terms.

And this also explains their reliance on Islander players to ensure the ongoing success of the All Blacks.

Is it time for the two countries to start to co-operate in terms of players movements, coaches and administration?

I can see major advantages in common advertising campaigns and revenue raising from PTV and possibly FTA. There could also be advantages to the financial strengths of both countries when common needs are purchased on a two country basis, including gear and supporter clothing being put to tender for both countries at one time.

There must still be plenty of room for both countries to exert control over their own resources and establish their own rules and structure. All I am suggesting is that, with professional rugby getting more expensive year by year, it might make sense to combine some of our efforts.

I would also like to see Australian teams included in the New Zealand domestic competition rather than starting our own competition.
