Players and coaches should attend referee training

Having read referee’s boss Robert Finch’s defence of the referees, I see his point. Des Hasler didn’t complain when his team were awarded two tries a couple of weeks ago, even though many thought they shouldn’t have been awarded.

Especially the Jamie Lyon grounding with his torso.

I’d love to see all the coaches and captains spend a week at referee training in the pre-season and learn more about what the referee has to learn and how much work they put in. All the players should do it at some point and it may encourage some to go into refereeing after their playing career.

A referees wage is pretty good and former players would stay fit and involved with the game.

Having seen Phil Gould run around, I’m sure the younger players would find it a lot easier to keep up with the pace.

Teach the players about refereeing and there may be less complaints on the field.
