Patrick Mills and Joe Ingles are among four Australian Boomers hoping to be scooped up in this year’s NBA draft.
There are high expectations Mills will become the second indigenous Australian to play at NBA level, following in his cousin Nathan Jawai’s footsteps.
Mills has capped off two successful years in the American college league, playing for St Mary’s.
The 20-year-old point guard from Canberra was a standout at the Beijing Olympics.
He scored 20 points in the quarter-final match against the gold medal-winning US team which was full of NBA big names.
Meanwhile, South Australian Joe Ingles, 21, is generating his own buzz.
The South Dragons’ championship-winning guard has been based in Chicago for the past two months and has had workouts with several NBA and European teams.
West Australian giant Luke Nevill is also vying for selection after four years playing for the University of Utah.
He joined the Boomers squad in May.
And 22-year-old Queenslander Aron Baynes, who spent four years at Washington State, rounds out the Australians in contention.
Baynes may head to Europe if he’s not picked up in the draft, with Lithuanian club Lietuvos Rytas having already signed him to a two-year deal.
The NBA Draft begins at Madison Square Garden in New York on June 26.
