A Tasmanian footballer in trouble after flashing his penis on television has apologised for the display beamed live into homes around the state.

Clarence Football Club player Tim Orchard exposed himself for several seconds in the background of a post-match dressing room interview shown on ABC television at the weekend.

Orchard was wearing his club jacket and trousers at the time.

He was called to a special disciplinary hearing at the Hobart club on Monday afternoon.

“I’d like to apologise for my actions last Saturday,” Orchard said after fronting the committee.

“I’ve embarrassed myself, the club, the supporters, the sponsors and everyone associated with the club.”

Orchard said he would release a statement through the club on Tuesday, after it decides on his penalty later on Monday.

Club president Richard Mulligan says Orchard has caused a great deal of anguish and unhappiness.

“We unreservedly apologise for any offence that may have been occasioned by the inappropriate action of the player concerned,” he said.

“Certainly, we consider it a very serious matter, one which goes to the very essence of the credibility and the public image of our footy club, and we’ll take action accordingly.”

AFL Tasmania is also studying the footage and Orchard could be charged with behaviour detrimental to the image of the game.
