Socceroos winger David Carney has finally ended his frustrating stint with Sheffield United after joining Dutch club FC Twente on a two-year deal.

The former Sydney FC star has completed the move which will see him link up with Socceroos teammate Nikita Rukavystya and hopefully return to playing regular football.

Twente, coached by former Middlesbrough and England manager Steve McClaren, currently lie in fourth place in the Dutch league, one point behind leaders AZ Alkmaar.

Carney, 25, endured a horror run at Sheffield after finding himself on the outer with manager Kevin Blackwell.

He had been under pressure from Socceroos coach Pim Verbeek to find regular football in the lead-up to the 2010 World Cup and will be hopeful of quickly cementing himself as part of Twente’s first team.
