Socceroos coach Pim Verbeek will rely heavily on A-League players to clinch Asian Cup qualification after naming almost an entirely domestic-based squad for next month’s qualifier against Indonesia.

Verbeek named an extended 25-man squad for the March 3 clash at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, in which Australia are likely to need a draw to guarantee a spot at the 2011 Asian Cup in Qatar.

Only four overseas based players were named in the squad – Asian-based trio Josh Kennedy, Mark Milligan, Jade North and Dinamo Moscow’s Luke Wilkshire – with most regulars tied to European club commitments.

Verbeek called up several players for the first time, including exciting Adelaide youngster Mathew Leckie, his United teammate Michael Marrone, in-form Perth striker Daniel McBreen and Brisbane’s Luke DeVere.

A host of others earned recalls including Sydney FC trio Clint Bolton, Shannon Cole and Stuart Musialik and Wellington Phoenix duo Jon McKain and Andrew Durante.

The Dutchman also included promising youngsters Ben Kantarovski, Tommy Oar, David Williams and Michael Zullo in the squad.

Sydney FC were rewarded for their recent form in lifting the Premiers Plate, having five players named in the squad with Alex Brosque and Simon Colosimo joining Bolton, Cole and Musialik.

Perth Glory’s Jacob Burns and Mile Sterjovski will be added to the squad if they overcome injury concerns and get through Sunday’s semi-final in Wellington.
