Danny Green v Paul BriggsA fuming Danny Green has threatened not to pay Paul Briggs a cent for the Queenslander’s farcical display in Wednesday night’s IBO cruiserweight world title showdown in Perth.

Briggs brought shame upon the sport of boxing when he was counted out just 29 seconds into the first round from a punch that only just grazed him.

Green was too devastated to speak to the media after the fight.

But the West Australian made his feelings clear inside the ring in his post-fight address to the angry fans.

“Guys just chill out, no one’s as pissed off as me, believe me,” an irate Green said.

“There’s not one more person in this room (that) is more jacked than me.

“He (Briggs) ain’t even a canine.

“Paul Briggs ain’t getting paid a cent.

“He dogged it, that’s criminal what he did.

“He ain’t getting paid guys, I’m very sorry. I can’t do anything more.”

Briggs was showered with beer by angry fans as he left the ring and fled the arena soon after.

The fight was only switched to Perth from Sydney at late notice after the NSW Sports Combat Authority refused to sanction the bout due to health concerns surrounding Briggs, who retired in 2007 amid rumours he was suffering neurological problems.

The 34-year-old declared himself fit to fight Green but it’s clear his only intention was to pick up a handy pay packet.

Green will front the Perth media at 1pm on Thursday (1500 AEST).
