NBA players Patrick Mills and David Andersen headline the Australian team named to play in the Stankovic Continental Cup in China.
Joining Mills and Andersen in the team for the invitation-only tournament are Europe-based players Joe Ingles, Brad Newley, Matthew Nielsen, David Barlow, Mark Worthington, Aron Baynes, Steven Markovic and AJ Ogilvy.
Only two locally-based players are named in the squad, with Gold Coast Blaze’s Adam Gibson and Perth Wildcat Damian Martin given the nod.
Australia begin their Stankovic Continental Cup defence against host nation China on Wednesday before further clashes against Slovenia and Iran.
All three preliminary matches will be played in Liuzhou, China and the tournament is seen as a key part of Australia’s preparations for this year’s World Championships in Turkey starting on August 28.
