The World Cup has finished, with 209 nations represented by the final 32, with Spain winning. There were many highlights but what struck me most of all was the South African feel to the World Cup.

I can still see Mike Munro on Channel 7 ( now, there’s a coincidence) putting the boot in just before the World Cup. According to Munro, you would risk your life if you dared to go to the World Cup in Africa.

So what happened? Well, like all World Cups, it was an international community getting together to cerebrate things, with the centre being football. The worldwide Football Family came together in good-will and in the spirit of fun.

Who else could put on the show FIFA did? They broke down many stereotypes about Africa, and South Africa in particular.

Who else would put Shakiral, a Latin-American bombshell, and in K’naan, a Somalian Muslim, on the same concert bill and allow a song with rebellious words be sent across all parts of the world?
