Danny Green says he’s giving boxing fans what they want by agreeing to fight giant unbeaten American BJ Flores in the wake of his last highly-controversial bout against Paul Briggs.

IBO cruiserweight world champion Green announced on Tuesday he would fight Flores in hometown Perth on November 17.

Flores, who has an impressive record of 24 wins and one draw, with 15 KOs, is ranked in the top 10 of four of the major world boxing bodies.

Formerly a heavyweight, he is likely to outweigh Green by as much as eight kilos in their Challenge Stadium contest.

Green said he would have been happy to take the fight to any city in Australia but wanted to give it to Perth after the furore surrounding by his 29-second victory over Briggs in that city.

“He (Flores) is an undefeated fighter, what more could you ask for, we are giving Australian fans what they want to see,” Green told reporters in Sydney.

The Sydney-based Green didn’t want to dwell on the controversy generated by his quickfire win over Briggs but revealed he had co-operated fully with an inquiry into that fight.

“I sat for three hours with people holding the inquiry and spilt everything out, told them everything, I’ve done nothing wrong,” Green said.

Flores fought on the undercard in Biloxi last year when Green won the IBO title.

“With his size, speed and his power, it’s definitely going to be a big test, I’ve never faced anyone inside a boxing ring that big,” Green said of Flores.

Flores, who has sparred with several leading heavyweights including Briton David Haye, praised Green for giving him an opportunity after other cruiserweight champions declined to face him.

“It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity and I realise that,” Flores said.

“I know it’s going to be a difficult task, I know he’s a tough fighter and I’m looking forward to it.”
