Pakistan creates a dilemma for ICC

The recent match-fixing controversy surrounding Pakistan, not just on the current tour of England but also on last summer’s Sydney Test match, has created a problem for the International Cricket Council. What to do about Pakistan?

Should the ICC finally lose patience and suspend (or expel) Pakistan from international cricket because of the match-fixing problems?

Or, in light of the humanitarian disaster that has happened recently in Pakistan, the fact that Pakistan has not played a home Test in a while and any suspension or expulsion could end Pakistan as a major cricket nation, sending the game back 50 years and causing total damage to Pakistan’s international credibility, should they only suspend the individuals concerned?

It’ll be interesting to see what the ICC would do.

But seeing that the ICC is really a toothless tiger, would it surprise anyone that Pakistan would get a thrashing with a feather, when really the game of cricket is calling for strong and decisive leadership?

So, where does the ICC – and the game of cricket in general – go from here?
