France on Wednesday named Dimitri Szarzewski in their squad for the Autumn internationals, despite the fact he faces a potential ban after headbutting an opponent.

The Stade Francais hooker headbutted Toulon’s Jean-Philippe Genevois in a Top 14 match on Saturday and has been summoned to appear before the disciplinary commission of France’s National Rugby League on November 8.

France face Fiji in Nantes on November 13 and meet Argentina in Montpellier on November 20 before tackling Australia at Stade de France in Paris on November 27.

Perpignan prop Jerome Schuster, 25, and 23-year-old Bayonne winger Yoann Huget were the only new names in Marc Lievremont’s 31-man squad, which could be reduced to 30 if Szarzewski is suspended.

Several players who featured on the recent tour of South Africa and Argentina have retained their places, including Perpignan back Jerome Porical and Castres prop Luc Ducalcon.

Popular Racing-Metro back-row forward Sebastien Chabal returns after missing the summer tour through injury.

The Toulouse trio of Vincent Clerc, David Skrela and Clement Poitrenaud and Stade Francais centre Mathieu Bastareaud were the most notable omissions, while Racing’s young fly-half Jonathan Wisniweski also missed out despite being widely tipped for a call-up.

Perpignan centre Maxime Mermoz and Racing back Benjamin Fall are both unavailable due to injury.
