Australia is not always squeaky-clean

Watching the Australia versus Sri Lanka game the other night and seeing the Aussies lose the unloseble made me think that, had that been Pakistan in Australia’s shoes, the clamour for heads and the head shaking would have been unstoppable.

When Sri Lanka was 8-107, the “legal bookies” had them at 250 to 1 for the win. One can only imagine what was happening with the illegal bookies?

As Australia was the side that lost the game, no one has batted an eyelid as it seems that along with positive drug tests, Aussie sportsmen are beyond reproach.

Cricket and in fact all sport in Australia needs to take a long hard look at itself.

Recently we have had the following scandals: nine athletes test positive to drugs with no action as the ingestion was inadvertent; rugby league betting irregularities with no action taken; Brownlow medalist Chris Judd escaping punishment having elbowed Matthew Pavlich; and the football 2022 bid, which gave jewelery to delegates wives.

Australia is always seen as squeaky-clean, but is it?
