Paceman Jimmy Anderson hopes to inspire a change in England’s faltering one-day fortunes after returning to Australia. A hero in England’s successful Ashes campaign, Anderson returned home after the Test series.

In his absence, England lost all three matches so far in the seven-game one-day series.

Anderson, who also went home during the Ashes to witness the birth of his daughter, will return to action in the Australia Day clash in Adelaide on Wednesday,

“It was great to go home and see my family, it was also nice to get a break and rest the body and the mind,” the bowler told reporters in Adelaide on Monday.

“I needed it, my body certainly needed it after the Test series.

“I’m excited about playing again and looking forward to Wednesday.

“Hopefully I can bring a bit of experience and a bit of energy in the field … I don’t think we are that far away having seen the first three games.

“We aren’t far away from a win and turning the momentum around.”

Anderson said morale had not suffered from the one-day defeats.

“I know we are 3-0 down but the dressing room seems just as positive as when I left,” he said.

“They are still in good spirits.”

Adelaide was the first winning stop in England’s Ashes campaign, with a crushing innings and 71-run win in the second Test.

Anderson took six wickets in that match and hopes to keep untarnished memories of the picturesque ground.

“I have nice memories from the Test here, but Wednesday is a completely different situation,” he said.

“We’re 3-0 down and we have a must-win one-day game.
