A Wayne Rooney wonder-goal broke the deadlock in the Manchester derby overnight, as the striker latched on to a Nani cross in the box and unleashed a bicycle kick volley into the bottom corner of the Manchester City goal. The goal secured a 2-1 win for the Red Devils over their bitter rivals City in incredible style.

“I think it’s the best goal I’ve ever scored, I saw it coming over and I thought, ‘why not hit it?,'” Rooney said.

“I was just delighted to see it go in the net and get the three points. Nine times out of 10 they go into the stand. It’s the first overhead kick I’ve scored since school.”

Considering the pressure of the game, and the style in which it was scored, the goal will surely be in contention for goal of the season.

In a day for great goals, Graham Dorrans unleashed a top-corner screamer for West Bromwich Albion in a 3-3 draw with West Ham.
