No, I’m talking about fantasy coach NRL, where you pick a squad of players and they are given points on their performance based on their stats.
It is more addictive than cocaine flavoured fried chicken and can make a Cronulla versus Cowboys wet Monday night game as exciting as the 1989 grand final.
I honestly can’t get enough of it, which got me thinking.
Even though fantasy teams have been around for a while (can remember sitting at home filling out coupons from The Sydney Morning Herald as a kid to play) the whole thing really exploded with the widespread use of the internet and the code’s authorities making it free to play.
So, what if fantasy teams had been around in current form from 1908? Who would be the gun dream team players in there day?
As an old ‘Steeler’ from a Wollongong, I would have to have Micahel Bolt in my team. A tackling machine who played 187 consecutive games, the ‘man of steel’ would surely rack up the points like Wes Naquima’s licence every weekend.
Next I would have Ray Price aka ‘Mr Perpetual Motion’. The man would be a fantasy beast… as long as Dragons’ warlord Rod Reddy wasn’t in the other team to destroy him! Beetson would also be handy with his off-loads earning him some points.
You also couldn’t go past Dave Brown, the ‘Bradman of league’.
The bloke makes Michael Gordon look like Garrick Morgan in the points scoring stakes. In one game, the bloke scored five tries and 15 goals! That’s even better than Corey Parker!
