It has been suggested that a second event in the USA will be added to the ever-growing Formula One calendar in the not-too-distant future.

What makes this intriguing is the inaugural Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, at the under-construction Circuit of the Americas (COTA), won’t feature on the calendar until the end of 2012.

The sport has long struggled to capitalise on the lucrative American market, but with the addition of the COTA and now another race in the pipelines, that could be about to change.

New Jersey is being mooted as the destination for the second event, with the iconic Manhattan skyline set to feature prominently.

What’s more, the race could be on the calendar by 2013, merely a year after the sport’s first foray in Texas.

Formula One’s last attempt to crack America was deemed a failure, and the sport has not ventured stateside since 2007, despite the location incorporating a portion of the famed Indianapolis circuit.

Following the 2005 tyre fiasco, where all Michelin-shod runners pulled out after the parade lap due to safety concerns, the sport’s reputation took a beating.

It remains to be seen how the public reacts to the Texas GP before the sport knows if it has a realistic chance of gaining the respect it longs for.
