In a decision which left sports journalists all over the country stunned, the Fremantle Football Club announced the sacking of Mark Harvey.

Within hours, Ross Lyon announced he had quit as coach of St Kilda and shortly after, boarded a plane for Perth.

Apparently Ross privately expressed his interest in the coaching position at least four weeks ago and Steve Rosich has confirmed he has been in Melbourne speaking to key potential staff.

Harvey was unaware of the move to sack him, and it is being reported he was shocked and distressed when asked to leave the club immediately.

Rosich has already divided the membership of the Fremantle Football Club with his re-branding of the key elements of the Dockers and his latest decision has been met with dismay and anger.

Overwhelmingly, the reaction has been negative over the sacking of the popular and respected former assistant to Kevin Sheedy.

The club’s official Facebook page has been bombarded with complaints and pages calling for Rosich to be sacked have been published.

There has also been an overwhelmingly negative response on Twitter, with many fans complaining that Rosich has removed the key elements dear to the Dockers members, and has now arbitrarily removed their coach.

Time will decide if the push for success by Rosich is worth the strain on the club’s supporters.
