I have always been a fan of Floyd Mayweather’s cocky and brash persona, however, after the antics that were displayed during and after his fight with Victor Ortiz my opinion of the champion has changed.

Whilst Mayweather had every right to take advantage of the close proximity he had on Ortiz and landing the two punches that ultimately ended the fight, the thing that disgruntled me the most was the lack of sportsmanship he failed to display.

The less experienced boxer in Ortiz had no business to try and kiss and make-up with Mayweather inside the squared circle after the blatant head butt on Floyd. That is what the referee is there for and hence Joe Cortez calling for the one point deduction after the illegal move.

Let’s be honest, Ortiz made an error in judgment. He left himself open and failed to protect himself when referee Cortez called “fight”.

Although Mayweather was the more dominant (scoring 10-9 in all four rounds) and was arguably certain of a win, his retaliation to the head butt spoke volumes and fell short of the legendary fighter he has always claimed to be. As the saying goes, “Two wrongs don’t make a right”.

After all that’s said and done, Mayweather’s unsportsmanlike behaviour was disappointing to say the least. A win might be a win, but to have your hand raised under those circumstances is certainly nothing to be proud of. He cheated himself and his fans. Whether Floyd thinks the same is another story but if not, then I guess he has well and truly earned his “Money” title.

What has this done to his credibility? Absolutely nothing. If anything, he has lost a few fans (including me) and his reputation as “Bad Boy Floyd” has surged.

There is only one thing that could save his 42-win legacy. I know what it is, you know what it is and he knows what it is. Call me a harsh critic but as far as I am concerned his wins count for nothing until he steps up and fights Manny Pacquiao.

That’s not to say I discredit all he has done inside the ring but to be the best, you have to fight best.

So come on Floyd, be a man and take the on the challenge that everyone wants to see. Fight Pac.
