Is Anthony Mundine Trout dodging?

Word has it this morning Anthony Mundine, under the guidance of three times world champion Jeff Fenech, is aiming at fighting the unbeaten middleweight Julio Cesar Chavez Jnr in February 2012.

We know Jeff has influence in the WBC, but why would Mundine go down this path when he has the mandatory WBA challenge against Austin Trout coming up sometime next year?

Trout is also unbeaten, however his style would suit Mundine. Trout is a good boxer, however he has ‘light hands’, and struggles to dominate his opponents physically.

Trout fought Melbourne’s Frank Lo Porto in the US last month. Although Trout easily out-boxed the Melbourne journey-man, he actually struggled to put him away until the fight was stopped in the sixth round.

Aside from a fight in Auckland several years ago, this was Lo Porto’s second venture overseas and a huge step up to what he has been fighting locally.

Although Trout is a southpaw, and it is common knowledge Mundine finds them awkward, this is countered by the lack of knock out punch from the American.

I would be reading between the lines and suggesting Mundine has struggled at fighting, or making weight in the light-middleweight division.

Having seen him recently in person, it has added a few years onto his looks. Gaunt, and hollow cheeked, it is surprising he had the strength to go 12 rounds against Alveraz in Newcastle two months ago.

Further to looking at the Chavez fight, Mundine has also stated he ‘wants’ to fight Danny Greens recent conqueror at cruiserweight, Polish ‘banger’ Krzysztof Wlodarczyk.

I would be surprised if this ever happened, but if it did, I would have the ambulance ringside waiting for the inevitable.
