The Sydney Sixers will host the Melbourne Stars at the Sydney Cricket Ground for the ninth game of the Big Bash League 2011-12. We’ll bring you the live scores and commentary of the action throughout the game, with the match starting at 7.00 pm AEDT on December 27.

The Sixers kicked off their campaign this Big Bash League season with a seven-wicket win over Brisbane Heat, but will be again left without the architect of that win, Brad Haddin.

Haddin scored a match-winning 70 in that opener, but is playing against India on national duty. In his absence, the Sixers struggled. Steven Smith led the side against Hobart but poor an all-round play from the Sixers brought them a 42-run loss.

Brett Lee continued with his miserly bowling but garnered no support from the other end. The Hurricanes compiled 169 before the Sixers were bowled out by Jason Krejza and Naved-ul-Hasan Rana.

It was surprising to not see Smith take up bowling responsibilities and unless he is injured, he will do well to lead from the front.

The Melbourne Stars went down to Sydney Thunder in their opener but came back strongly against Brisbane Heat.

First it was Rob Quiney’s 97 that helped the Stars pile on 177 in their stipulated overs. Then Clint McKay and Shane Warne coupled to pick up four wickets between them.

Warne’s dismissal of Brendon McCullum was spectacular in that he predicted the exact way it would happen while chatting with the Fox commentators.

Interestingly, Stuart MacGill of the Sixers will be against Warne in this game, two leg-spinning greats from yesteryears. Both have had a decent initiation to the tournament and will add that extra edge to the game.

With a Sixers line-up missing some of its stars because of either injury or national duty, they will look to Michael Lumb and Moises Henriques to deliver them the goods.

David Hussey hasn’t had too much bowling to do but he got some runs under his belt and that should augur well for the Stars.

Cameron White’s form will be a concern as will Dwayne Bravo’s lack of incision with the ball.

We will bring you the coverage throughout the game from the Stadium Australia in Sydney and hope to receive your opinions as the action unfolds.
