Lining up with the Super Bowl, UFC 143 brings us an exciting main event that sees Nick Diaz take on Carlos Condit for the interim welterweight title belt.

The records say Nick Diaz (26-7, 7-4 UFC) versus Carlos Condit (27-5, 4-1 UFC).

Georges St-Pierre was due to defend his welterweight belt against Nick Diaz. However, due to an ACL injury that required surgery, St-Pierre was forced to withdraw and now sits on the sidelines.

The winner of Diaz versus Condit will determine who St-Pierre will defend his title against once he is back on deck.

Condit is the former WEC welterweight champion and is currently coming into this bout with a four-fight win streak.

Originally, Condit was to have the title shot against St-Pierre but it was not until Diaz called out the French-Canadian that Dana White changed his fate and ultimately changed the match.

This is Condit’s second chance for the opportunity that will give him a title shot against St Pierre. But first, he must beat Nick Diaz.

Diaz is the former Strikeforce welterweight champion and holds an impressive eleven-win streak. The aggression in both Diaz and Condit’s game, means that we are in for an explosive fight.

Diaz is known for his striking abilities and his excellent ground game and has put his past opponents in dangerous positions. He has the ability as a striker to smother his opponent with punches to the body. This allows him the opportunity to tire out and hurt his opposition.

There is no doubt that Condit is a well-rounded fighter. He produces quality stand-up with heavy hands and has a ground-game that comes highly underrated.

Should the fight go to the ground, Condit contends with Diaz’s Gracie training. If Condit has any chance at winning this he will want to try and keep the fight on their feet and try to present the power behind his hands for a TKO/KO.

What can you expect? To put it simply, a war. What not to expect? The fight to go the distance. Whether it’s via KO or submission, someone is going down before the final round.

My prediction: Nick Diaz via submission.
